Church Growth and Mission
God's vision for our lives and communities requires both our hearts to be connected to His purpose and our hands to be committed to His mission. We're reminded that each of us has been given unique gifts and talents, not to be hoarded, but to be used in service of God's kingdom.
Day 1: Building on God's Vision
Reading: Nehemiah 1:1-11
Reading: Nehemiah 1:1-11
Devotional: Nehemiah's heart broke for the state of Jerusalem, reflecting God's own heartbreak for His people. Today, consider what breaks God's heart in your community. Are there areas of brokenness, hopelessness, or injustice that move you to action? Pray for God to align your heart with His vision for your neighborhood, workplace, or city. Ask Him to give you the courage to be part of His redemptive work, just as Nehemiah stepped out in faith to rebuild Jerusalem's walls.
Day 2: Equipped for God's Purpose
Reading: Romans 12:3-8
Reading: Romans 12:3-8
Devotional: God has uniquely gifted each of us to serve His kingdom. Reflect on the talents, experiences, and passions He's given you. How might these be used to build up the church and reach those who don't yet know Christ? Remember, you are not an accident - God has placed you exactly where you are for a purpose. Ask Him to reveal how you can use your gifts to show His love to others, whether through acts of service, words of encouragement, or leadership in your community.
Day 3: A Place of Hope for the Hopeless
Reading: Luke 15:1-7
Reading: Luke 15:1-7
Devotional: Jesus tells the parable of the lost sheep, illustrating God's relentless pursuit of those who are far from Him. The church is meant to be a place where the lost can find hope and belonging. Consider the young man in the sermon who said, "I didn't know a place like this existed for people like me." How can you help create an environment in your church or small group where outsiders feel welcomed and valued? Pray for opportunities to extend God's love to someone who may feel unworthy or excluded.
Day 4: Committed to the Mission
Reading: Matthew 28:16-20
Reading: Matthew 28:16-20
Devotional: Jesus commissions His disciples to go and make disciples of all nations. This Great Commission still applies to us today. Reflect on your level of commitment to this mission. Are you merely dabbling in your faith, or are you devoted to seeing lives transformed by the gospel? Ask God to renew your passion for His mission and to show you practical ways to share His love with those around you. Consider one step you can take this week to be more intentional in living out your faith.
Day 5: Building Something that Lasts
Reading: 1 Corinthians 3:10-15
Reading: 1 Corinthians 3:10-15
Devotional: Paul reminds us that our work for God's kingdom will be tested by fire, revealing what truly lasts. As you invest your time, talents, and resources, consider the eternal impact of your choices. Are you building on the foundation of Christ with materials that will endure? Pray for wisdom to discern what truly matters in light of eternity. Ask God to help you focus on building relationships, sharing the gospel, and living out your faith in ways that have lasting significance for His kingdom.
